The Pittsburgh Steelers called off a fan event in Paris this weekend because of recent street protests in the city, according to ESPN and CBS Sports.

The Steelers House event was set for the Bastille area of Paris, ESPN and CBS Sports reported. ESPN, which ran an Associated Press report, said it was planned at a bar in the neighborhood.

"Following recent events in the Bastille neighborhood, and after careful consideration, we felt it appropriate not to move forward with the planned Steelers House fan event in Paris," the Steelers said, according to ESPN and CBS Sports.

Sunday's game between the Steelers and the New Orleans Saints will go ahead, ESPN and CBS Sports reported. It is the NFL's first regular-season game in Paris. It will be played at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, just under six miles from the center of Paris, CBS Sports said.

There have been no problems at league sites so far, CBS Sports reported. An NFL official said security "will be heightened" for the game, CBS Sports said. The league is working with local officials and the State Department.

Nicki Ewell, an NFL vice president for global events, said the Steelers made the call to cancel, ESPN reported. She said no NFL fan events have been affected.

An authorized march is set to start at Place de la Bastille on Saturday, CBS Sports reported. ESPN said more protests could take place this weekend in Paris and elsewhere in France.

A day before the cancellation, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he felt confident about the game, ESPN reported. "Protests are not unusual in France, as you know," Goodell said. He said he had spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

What we know: The Steelers canceled their Steelers House event, and Sunday's game is still on.
What we don't: Whether the weekend protests will affect fans heading to the game.
