A reboot of "Glee," Ryan Murphy's TV musical, is coming to Disney+ and Hulu, according to NBC News and Playbill. The streamers announced it in a social media post Wednesday, NBC News reported.
Lea Michele will return as Rachel Berry, Variety reported, citing multiple sources. "She's in," one source said, according to Variety. Representatives for Michele and Murphy declined to comment, Playbill reported, citing Variety.
Heather Morris, who played Brittany Pierce, and Chord Overstreet, who played Sam Evans, made social media posts that suggest they will also return, Variety and Playbill reported.
The original show ran on Fox from 2009 to 2015, NBC News and Variety reported. It followed a high school show choir called New Directions. Michele led the cast as Rachel Berry, a gifted and driven singer, for all six seasons, Variety said.
"Glee" earned 10 Golden Globe nominations and won four, NBC News reported. Many of the cast's cover songs reached the Billboard Hot 100, it said. The show later found a new audience on Netflix and TikTok, NBC News reported.
The news came weeks after Murphy said he had written a reboot script. "Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something," Murphy said in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," according to NBC News and Playbill. "I've been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members."
Michele had said she would be happy to join a reboot. "I will follow Ryan wherever he goes," she said in an interview with "E! News," according to Variety.
Before "Glee," Michele starred on Broadway in "Spring Awakening," Variety reported.
