Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat fellow Spaniard Rafael Jódar 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the Shanghai Masters final on Sunday to win the biggest title of his career, AFP and Reuters reported.

It was the 27-year-old's first title at the Masters 1000 level, AFP reported. Reuters reported that it was his third ATP title, after wins in Chengdu and Mallorca this season, and that he is set to rise to a career-high No. 13 in the world rankings on Monday.

Jódar, 20, broke serve early and took the first set, AFP and Reuters reported. AFP reported that the set lasted 27 minutes. In the second set, Davidovich Fokina came back from a break down and won the tiebreak to force a third set, AFP and Reuters reported.

Davidovich Fokina broke Jódar's serve in the first game of the third set, AFP reported. AFP reported that Jódar needed a medical timeout for his right thigh when he trailed 4-3, and treatment on his left thigh when he trailed 5-4. Davidovich Fokina won on his second championship point.

"I have a blank mind," Davidovich Fokina said, according to Reuters. "I don't know what to say and I don't know how I feel. Just a huge relief."

Jódar was the youngest player to reach the Shanghai final, AFP and Reuters reported. "I gave everything but it wasn't meant to be today," Jódar said, according to AFP.

AFP reported that Davidovich Fokina has now won 10 straight matches in China. Reuters reported that Jódar was ranked outside the world's top 900 a little more than a year ago, and that he is trying to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin in his first full season on tour.

"You are 20-years-old but man, you have a future," Davidovich Fokina said of Jódar during the trophy ceremony, according to AFP.
