The New Jersey Devils scored four goals in just over five minutes and beat the New York Rangers 7-1 on Thursday night at Prudential Center in Newark, according to the AP and the NHL's official box score. It was the first meeting this season between the rivals.

Evan Rodrigues started the run with 29.6 seconds left in the first period after Rangers captain J.T. Miller missed a pass, the AP reported. Luke Hughes scored 18 seconds into the second period, and Nico Hischier and Arseny Gritsyuk added goals soon after, Field Level Media reported.

Gritsyuk's goal ended the night for Rangers goalie Dylan Garand, who gave up four goals on 13 shots, the outlets said. Garand, called up from the minor leagues, had won his first two starts after star goalie Igor Shesterkin was lost for the season with an injury, the AP reported.

Hughes scored again late in the second period for the first multigoal game of his NHL career, the AP reported. Stefan Noesen and Cody Glass also scored for New Jersey, according to the box score.

Devils goalie Nico Daws made 18 saves and lost his shutout when Pavel Dorofeyev scored on a power play in the third period. Timo Meier, Brett Pesce, Amadeus Lombardi, Dawson Mercer and Dougie Hamilton each had two assists.

The Devils outshot the Rangers 31-19, the box score shows. New Jersey won its second straight game, while the Rangers lost for just the third time in nine games, the AP reported. Field Level Media said it was the first time this season the Rangers allowed more than three goals.

What we know: The Devils won 7-1, with two goals from Hughes and 18 saves from Daws.
What we don't: How long Garand will stay in the Rangers' net with Shesterkin out.
