Elon Musk has poured at least $276 million into the midterm elections since the summer, becoming the top known donor to the Republican Party, CNN reported. The New York Post also reported the $276 million figure and called Musk the largest donor this cycle.

A spokesperson for America PAC, Musk's main political group, confirmed the figure on Monday, CNN reported. The figure covers his giving from July onward and was first reported by the New York Times, CNN said.

Most of the money, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, the top Republican super PAC in Senate races, CNN and the New York Post reported. The group is spending heavily to keep a Senate seat in Texas, CNN reported. There, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is in a tight race against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.

Another $76 million went to get-out-the-vote efforts in seven Senate battleground states and almost three dozen House races, the New York Post reported, citing the New York Times. The PAC also gave $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which backs House Republicans, the Post reported.

"These robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history," America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo said, the New York Post reported.

Musk donated nearly $300 million during the 2024 campaign to help Donald Trump win, CNN reported. In May 2025, Musk said he would "do a lot less" political spending, and he later fell out with Trump over his tax and domestic policy law, CNN reported. The relationship has appeared to improve since then, CNN said, and Trump honored Musk with the National Medal of Science this month.

Thursday is the deadline for campaigns and some political action committees, including America PAC, to report the last three months of their finances to the Federal Election Commission, CNN reported.

What we know: Musk has given at least $276 million to Republican groups since July, most of it to the Senate Leadership Fund.
What we don't: What the Thursday filings will show about Musk's giving and what Democratic donors have raised.
