India's Haldiram's opens its first U.S. restaurant in Frisco, Texas

The restaurant opened Oct. 11 at 7010 Preston Road, Community Impact said.
It covers 4,400 square feet, both outlets reported. It serves Indian street food, thalis and chaats, along with desserts, the Dallas Business Journal said. A thali is a meal of several small dishes served on one plate.
The menu also includes samosas, curries, biryani and other vegetable dishes, Community Impact reported. The restaurant has a retail area that sells Haldiram's packaged snacks, both outlets said.
Haldiram's has more than 400 stores and restaurants around the world, according to Community Impact.
The restaurant seats 110 people, the company said in its announcement, published by FSR magazine. Dishes include Raj Kachori, Choley Bhature, Pav Bhaji and Pani Puri, with sweets such as Rasmalai and Gulab Jamun. The opening came during the Hindu festival of Navratri, and the restaurant added a special menu for it, FSR reported.
The Frisco opening came about four months after Haldiram's opened a restaurant in London, Community Impact said.
Its snacks reach more than 80 countries, the company said in an announcement published by FSR magazine.
The company was founded in 1937 as a small shop in Bikaner, in India's Rajasthan state, FSR reported. It has more than 200 restaurants in northern India.
The company said the Dallas-Fort Worth area is the starting point for a wider U.S. restaurant push, FSR reported. It has not said where or when other U.S. locations will open.
"Bringing Haldiram's to the United States is an important milestone in our international journey," the company said in its announcement, FSR reported.
The U.S. expansion is led by managing director Pankkaj Agarwal and Rhea Agarwal, the company's commercial director for the United Kingdom and Europe, FSR said.
