The Los Angeles Rams released kicker Harrison Mevis on Tuesday, less than a day after kicking problems helped the Buffalo Bills beat them in overtime, the Los Angeles Times and CBS Sports reported.

Mevis missed a 50-yard field goal in the first half on Monday night, both outlets reported. In overtime, his 48-yard try to win the game was blocked. The Bills went on to win 37-34.

"Not even close to good enough," coach Sean McVay said of the kicking units after the game, according to both outlets. "It cost us the game tonight."

The loss dropped the Rams' record to 2-3, the Times reported.

The Rams are signing Blake Grupe from the New York Jets' practice squad, both outlets reported. In 2025, Grupe made 18 of his 26 field goals for the New Orleans Saints and all 11 of his tries for the Indianapolis Colts.

Grupe is one of the smallest players in the NFL at 5-foot-7 and 156 pounds, CBS Sports reported. He went undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2023.

Mevis made just five of nine field goals this season, both outlets reported. CBS Sports said his 55.6% rate ranks last in the league.

The move is the latest twist in the Rams' long kicking troubles, the Times reported. Last season, the team released kicker Joshua Karty after he struggled and signed Mevis. McVay also fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn late last season.

CBS Sports said some fans also blamed McVay's cautious play-calling in overtime. On third down, a Rams run was stuffed at the line before the blocked kick, CBS Sports reported.

What we know: The Rams cut Mevis and are signing Grupe after the overtime loss.
What we don't: Whether Grupe will kick in the Rams' next game.
