GOP super PACs pull ad money from two House Republicans
Two major Republican super PACs are pulling planned ad money from the races of Rep. Tom Kean Jr. of New Jersey and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa. The money will go to other House races instead. The move is another warning sign for Republicans three weeks before the midterms.
Two major Republican super PACs are pulling money from the races of two sitting House Republicans, CNN and Fox News reported.
The Congressional Leadership Fund, the House GOP's largest super PAC, is cutting off ad spending for Rep. Tom Kean Jr. of New Jersey's 7th District and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa's 1st District, CNN reported. MAGA Inc., a group tied to President Donald Trump, is also moving its planned spending out of those districts, Fox News reported. Both groups will put the money into other House races.
The fund cut about $2 million from its remaining ads in Kean's race and about $1.4 million in Miller-Meeks' race, CNN reported, citing AdImpact data. It is also pulling money from two Democratic-held seats the GOP had hoped to win, Michigan's 8th District and Ohio's 1st District.
Republican officials privately believe both incumbents' seats are too hard to win now, CNN reported. Kean went dark for four months this year, for what he later described as treatment for depression. Miller-Meeks first won in 2020 by just six votes and won by less than a point last time. Kean faces Democrat Rebecca Bennett, and Miller-Meeks faces Democrat Christina Bohannan.
A source close to Kean's campaign told Fox News that "the race is fully funded down the home stretch." A spokesperson for the House Majority PAC, a Democratic group, told Fox News, "We're flipping NJ-07 blue in November."
The latest Fox News Power Rankings show Democrats with an edge in 219 House seats, enough for a majority, Fox reported. All four districts the fund is leaving voted for Trump in 2024, CNN noted.
