Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for about $7 billion
Amazon is in talks to buy AI startup Decart in a deal that could be worth about $7 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported. Decart makes tools that edit live video and simulate worlds for robots. Anthropic walked away from buying the company in September.
Amazon is in talks to buy the artificial intelligence startup Decart, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. The deal could be worth around $7 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.
A deal could happen soon if talks do not fall apart or another buyer does not step in, the Journal said, as reported by Reuters through The Straits Times. Reuters could not verify the report. Amazon and Decart did not comment.
Decart was founded in 2023 by brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, Israeli outlet CTech reported. Its Lucy model can edit live video in real time. Another model, Oasis, creates simulated worlds used to train and test robots and self-driving systems. CTech says the company also builds software that helps AI models run more efficiently and switch between chips from different makers.
That could matter to Amazon. The company is building its own AI chips, called Trainium, as an alternative to Nvidia. CTech reports that Amazon Web Services is already a Decart customer and gave the startup early access to its Trainium3 chip in 2025.
The price would be a big jump. Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May, when it raised $300 million in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as an investor.
The startup's sale process has had several twists. Anthropic explored buying Decart in August for as much as $6 billion but decided against it in September after due diligence, Reuters and CTech reported.
CTech notes that a $7 billion deal would rank among Amazon's largest recent purchases. It bought the film studio MGM for about $6.5 billion in 2022.
