George Clooney has spoken publicly for the first time about the death of his friends' son, Presley Gerber.

"It's one of the most devastating things that's happened to our family," Clooney told Entertainment Tonight, Fox News reported. "And their family is just… as you can imagine, it's the worst thing that could ever happen to a family."

"I don't think we're even in the position of being able to talk about it," the 65-year-old actor said.

Presley Gerber, 27, was the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber. He died Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation center in Santa Monica, California, Fox News reported. Rande Gerber is a close friend of Clooney and co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand with him, Newser reported.

Clooney spoke on Friday at The Albies in London, Primetimer reported. The awards event is hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which he runs with his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.

TMZ reported that the Clooneys visited the Gerbers in Los Angeles after Presley's death and have been offering support, Primetimer said.

Presley Gerber worked as a model, like his mother and his sister, Kaia Gerber. He had spoken in the past about his struggles with mental health.

Crawford and Rande Gerber have not spoken publicly in detail about their son's death. The Clooneys have continued to offer support to the family, according to reports.
