OpenAI is bringing GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users, including people who pay nothing. The update also adds Intelligent UI, a feature that lets ChatGPT answer with charts, maps, forms, buttons and small working tools instead of only text.

Paid users on the Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans got the update first, starting Oct. 7, Technology.org reported. Free and Go users began getting it Oct. 8. The two groups get different models. Paid plans run GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users get a lighter model, GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday chat.

Until now, only paying customers could use GPT-6. OpenAI says ChatGPT has more than 1.2 billion weekly users, so most of them will get their first taste of the new model with this release.

OpenAI's examples show how the new answers work. A Sunday roast plan comes with a guest count you can change, Tom's Guide reported. Other demos include a clickable look at a bike's parts, a map for a road trip and a bill splitter. Simple questions still get simple text, and users can turn the visuals down.

GPT-6 can also start answering while it is still working through a problem. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant begins replying to questions that need a web search 44% sooner than the older GPT-5.6 Instant. That measures when the answer starts, not when it finishes.

OpenAI says GPT-6 resists tricks meant to get around its safety rules better than earlier models. It also says the model's design choices still need work.

Google has tested similar custom layouts in its Gemini app and in Search since late 2025, Technology.org noted.

What we know: GPT-6 and Intelligent UI are rolling out to every ChatGPT plan.
What we don't: Whether people will prefer the new answers over plain text.
