Rookie Brayden Burries scored late and the Milwaukee Bucks came back from a big first-half deficit to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-126 in a preseason game Wednesday. Myles Turner led Milwaukee with 19 points. Thunder center Aday Mara made all 10 of his shots for 22 points.
The Milwaukee Bucks found a late spark from a rookie. Brayden Burries took over in the final minutes, and the Bucks rallied to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 128-126 in a preseason game Wednesday night at Paycom Center, Brew Hoop and the CBS Sports box score showed.
Oklahoma City led by as many as 24 points in the first half and was up 82-64 at halftime. The Thunder then rested all of their starters except center Aday Mara for the second half, while the Bucks kept their starters in longer. Milwaukee outscored Oklahoma City 33-20 in the third quarter to get within five.
The fourth quarter belonged to the young players. Burries put Milwaukee ahead 114-113 at the free-throw line with about four minutes left, the CBS play-by-play shows. After Oklahoma City's Bennett Stirtz hit a 3, Burries scored at the rim and then dunked to tie the game 122-122 with about a minute left, according to the CBS play-by-play. Cormac Ryan's layup put the Bucks ahead, and Burries and Ousmane Dieng hit free throws to close it.
Burries finished with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals off the bench. Myles Turner scored 19 points in 21 minutes, and Kel'el Ware had 18 points and 12 rebounds.
For Oklahoma City, Mara went 10-for-10 from the field for 22 points. Stirtz, another first-round pick, scored 20. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 17 points on 5-of-5 shooting in 18 minutes.
The Bucks dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Thunder 68-49 overall, the box score showed. They also had 20 offensive rebounds to Oklahoma City's eight.
There was one scare. Bucks forward Nate Ament landed awkwardly at the rim in the second quarter and twisted his ankle. He left and did not return. Milwaukee also sat several veterans, including Kyle Kuzma, Caris LeVert and Gary Trent Jr.
Preseason results do not count in the standings. Milwaukee is 1-1 in exhibition play, and Oklahoma City is 0-2.
What we know: Milwaukee won 128-126 after trailing by 24.
What we don't: How serious Ament's ankle injury is.
Where outlets agree Brew Hoop and the CBS Sports box score both show Milwaukee won 128-126, with Turner scoring 19 and Mara 22.
Where they differ The Bucks have not said how badly Ament's ankle is hurt, and Brew Hoop only reported that he did not return.
