The Atlanta Dream won Game 1 of their WNBA semifinal without one of their best players, and now they are waiting to learn whether Allisha Gray can play in Game 2, Sporting News and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Gray hurt her left hand, her shooting hand, while defending Sabrina Ionescu in the first quarter on Sunday. She tried to return but air-balled a 3-pointer and was ruled out before halftime, Sporting News said, and her pinky and ring fingers were taped together on the bench.

"Hopefully she'll be OK," coach Karl Smesko said, though he was not sure she would be ready for Wednesday.

Atlanta won anyway, 92-82. Jordin Canada and DeWanna Bonner combined for 48 points, Angel Reese added 17 points and seven rebounds, and the Dream set a WNBA playoff record with nine steals and two blocks in a single quarter, Sporting News said.

Gray matters a lot to this team. She averaged 19 points this season, the most on the roster, the AJC said, and fellow scorer Rhyne Howard shot only 5-for-20 in Game 1.

New York is dangerous. The Liberty won the 2024 title and upset top-seeded Minnesota in the first round, and Breanna Stewart averages 20.8 points a game. Ionescu scored 27 in the opener.

The Dream have built toward this moment. They traded for Reese after losing in the first round last year, and this season they matched their team record of 30 wins.

How to watch: Game 2 is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena on ESPN, and Game 3 is Friday in New York, the AJC said. In the other semifinal, Golden State leads Las Vegas 1-0 after a 71-60 win, with Game 2 on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET on Peacock and NBCSN, NBC Sports said. The WNBA Finals start Oct. 17.

What we know: Atlanta leads 1-0 and plays Game 2 at home on Wednesday.
What we don't: Whether Gray's hand will let her play.
