Two very different movies open in theaters on Friday, Oct. 9, and forecasters expect the horror film to come out ahead.

The Social Reckoning is Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to The Social Network, which he wrote in 2010. This time Sorkin wrote and directed the film for Sony, and Slashfilm called it a companion piece to the earlier movie rather than a direct sequel.

Jeremy Strong plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, while Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen, the former Facebook worker who leaked internal company documents. Jeremy Allen White plays Jeff Horwitz, the Wall Street Journal reporter who wrote about those papers, Slashfilm said.

Expectations are modest. Slashfilm cited a Box Office Theory forecast of $8 million to $13 million for the opening weekend, while Boxoffice Pro predicts $6 million to $10 million. For comparison, The Social Network opened with $22.4 million in 2010 and went on to earn $225 million around the world.

Other Mommy, from Universal, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, is the favorite. Boxoffice Pro expects it to open with $15 million to $25 million.

The film is directed by Rob Savage, who made Host and The Boogeyman, and produced by James Wan, the horror producer behind Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring, according to Universal. It is based on Josh Malerman's bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. Arabella Olivia Clark plays Bela, a young girl who forms a bond with a sinister being in her home that looks just like her mother, and Chastain plays both the mom and the "Other Mommy." Jay Duplass plays Bela's father, with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen also in the cast.

The fall box office is busy. Boxoffice Pro said the following weekend brings Street Fighter on Oct. 16, which it projects could open with $30 million to $40 million.
