NFL Week 4: Bills fall, Cowboys and Giants win shootouts
Week 4 of the NFL season brought the Bills' first loss, a Panthers upset of Detroit and close wins for Dallas, the Giants and Kansas City. The Colts beat Washington 30-13 in London. Falcons at Saints closes the week on Monday night.
Week 4 of the NFL season delivered upsets, comebacks and one result fans in Buffalo did not want to see. Here are Sunday's scores, according to ESPN, NFL.com and Pro Football Focus.
New England beat Buffalo 29-26, handing the Bills their first loss. The Los Angeles Rams rallied past Philadelphia 24-20. Jacksonville edged Cincinnati 22-17. Dallas outlasted Houston 34-30 in a high-scoring game. The New York Giants beat Arizona 36-24.
Baltimore topped Tennessee 24-18. Green Bay held off Tampa Bay 17-14. Chicago beat the New York Jets 23-12 behind rookie running back Kyle Monangai. In London, Indianapolis beat Washington 30-13.
San Francisco defeated Denver 24-14. Kansas City got past Las Vegas 30-27. Seattle beat the Los Angeles Chargers 30-23. Minnesota won a defensive game over Miami 15-10. Cleveland beat Pittsburgh 27-24. On Sunday night, Carolina beat Detroit 32-26.
A few takeaways stand out. The AFC East is suddenly more interesting after New England's win. Carolina's upset showed that Bryce Young and second-year receiver Tetairoa McMillan can carry an offense. And close games ruled the week, with several decided by a field goal or less.
The NFL now plays games in London and other cities each fall to grow the sport overseas. The Colts' trip was one of several international games on this year's schedule.
The week wraps up Monday night when Atlanta visits New Orleans at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN. Both teams are 1-2.
Bye weeks begin soon, which will give some teams a break as injuries pile up.
What we know: All Sunday games are final, and one game remains Monday night.
What we don't: Which early-season surprises will last into November.
Where outlets agree ESPN and NFL.com both list New England's 29-26 win over Buffalo and Carolina's 32-26 win over Detroit among Sunday's Week 4 results.
Where they differ Some analysts see the Bills' loss as a warning sign, while others say one close defeat says little about a team that is still 3-1.
