A country song from Alabama is now the longest-running No. 1 hit in Billboard history, and it keeps adding to its lead. Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" spent a 24th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the chart dated Oct. 3, Billboard and The Washington Times reported.

The song first broke the all-time record at 23 weeks, passing Mariah Carey's holiday classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which had spent 22 weeks on top over many holiday seasons, according to Variety. The 24 weeks are not consecutive. The song has dropped from the top spot and climbed back several times.

The Hot 100 ranks songs by streaming, radio airplay and sales. "Choosin' Texas" has done well on all three, helped by country radio, TikTok videos and streaming playlists.

NBC News described how the song became a cross-genre smash, reaching listeners far beyond country fans.

Here is the background. Langley, from Hope Hull, Alabama, broke through in 2024 with "You Look Like You Love Me," a duet with Riley Green that won awards from the Country Music Association. "Choosin' Texas" turned her into one of the biggest names in music.

Country music has had a huge run on the pop charts in recent years. Artists like Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan and Shaboozey have topped the Hot 100, and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" spent 19 weeks at No. 1 in 2024, the record for a country song until Langley broke it.

What we know: "Choosin' Texas" has spent 24 weeks at No. 1, a Hot 100 record.
What we don't: How many more weeks it can add.
