White House drops CNN from Thursday Texas–Oklahoma press pool again
CNN was pulled from Thursday's traveling TV pool for Trump's Texas and Oklahoma trip after being listed on the Sunday rotation. The Kelly hard-pass TRO still runs toward October 8; an administration reply is due October 2.
The White House again kept CNN off the traveling television press pool for President Donald Trump's Thursday trip to Denton, Texas, and Durant, Oklahoma. CNN had been listed for the assignment in a Sunday rotation memo. Wednesday's daily guidance replaced that slot and left Real America's Voice as the secondary TV crew, NBC News, Mediaite, and The Hill reported.
CNN's Emily Kuhn confirmed the network was dropped from Thursday's planned pool coverage. Attorney Theodore Boutrous, who represents CNN, MS NOW, and Politico in the Kelly hard-pass case, said Thursday the White House is "persisting in unpredictably and inconsistently implementing" a ban that harms pool partners and the public. The administration has not published a detailed public explanation of the Thursday drop.
This is the second AF1/pool snub in days. Over the weekend, CNN was left off Trump's Tennessee football trip after the same pattern: scheduled on the rotation, then omitted when guidance posted. Judge Timothy Kelly's temporary restraining order restored White House hard passes for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico after Trump's September ban, but the order spoke to credentials on the complex — not Air Force One seating or day-to-day pool assignments. The TRO runs about 14 days toward October 8. The administration's written reply on the preliminary injunction request is due October 2; plaintiffs file again by October 5.
Press advocates call the pool cuts viewpoint punishment that hollows out Kelly's restore. The White House has treated travel-pool picks as operational privilege outside the hard-pass order. Other networks briefly paused pool duty last week in solidarity, then resumed after credentials returned. Watch Thursday's trip coverage, any new Kelly filing on pool access, the October 2 reply, and whether Friday's docket moves the TRO toward a longer injunction.
Backstory: Trump announced a ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House in mid-September. Kelly ordered hard passes reinstated pending further review. The fight then shifted to whether that restore also covers the rotating TV pool that flies with the president and feeds video to the rest of the press corps.
Where outlets agree NBC News, Mediaite, and The Hill agree Wednesday's guidance omitted CNN from Thursday's Texas–Oklahoma pool after the Sunday rotation had listed the network.
Where they differ CNN and its lawyers call the repeat pool cut an end-run around Judge Kelly's hard-pass restore; the White House has treated Air Force One and travel-pool slots as separate from the TRO on White House credentials.
