Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings traded dramatic finishes with the Phoenix Mercury over two games: an 87–82 Wings win on Sept. 19 for a sixth straight victory, then an 87–86 Mercury revenge win Monday when Kahleah Copper’s layup with 2.4 seconds left snapped Dallas’s streak.

On Saturday in Arlington, Bueckers scored 26 points—20 in the first half—while Arike Ogunbowale added 22 points and six assists. Aziaha James’s late steal and Bueckers free throws helped seal it. Alyssa Thomas posted a triple-double (19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) in the loss for Phoenix. Awak Kuier had 11 and Jessica Shepard 10 for Dallas, which moved past New York and Washington into sixth place at 26–16. Lexi Held scored 21 for the Mercury.

Monday in Phoenix, Copper scored 16 of her 31 in the fourth quarter. Thomas finished with 15 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds—her fifth triple-double of the season—as Phoenix erased a 14-point deficit after trailing 74–63 early in the fourth. A late foul call against Phoenix was overturned; Thomas then found Copper on a backdoor cut. Bueckers’ buzzer-beating three-point attempt missed the rim. She finished with 30 points and seven assists, setting a Dallas single-season scoring record at 853 points; Shepard had 17 points and 19 rebounds. Dallas fell to 26–17, remaining tied for sixth; Phoenix improved to 16–27, snapping Dallas’s win streak that had dated to Aug. 17.

Both games drew national interest as Bueckers’s star turn met Mercury veterans Copper and Thomas. Dallas visits Seattle Wednesday; Phoenix hosts Las Vegas Thursday to close the regular season.
